L'auteur analyse la formation de classes sociales a partir des donnees empiriques provenant des regions de savane (Haute-Volta) et de foret (Cote d'Ivoire). Il montre comment la dependance de l'investissement d'un pays donateur favorise l'emergence des rapports de classes aux niveaux etatique et prive. La formation dualiste de classes resulte de l'articulation des rapports de production aux tactiques de reproduction elargie du centre qu'il soit colonial ou neo-colonial. En conclusion l'auteur propose l'hypothese selon laquelle le sous-developpement constitue une phase d'articulation des modes de production capitaliste et pre-capitaliste quand ce dernier est preserve
