Fighting to prevent and mitigate the impact of outbreaks
When a new disease outbreak occurs, immediate, deliberate measures to fight and contain the outbreak are critical to global health security. However, these measures cannot come without equally deliberate preparation. Nations can help prepare for these unforeseen crises by building strong health systems capable of detecting and responding quickly to these disease outbreaks.
As a leader in health systems strengthening and the prevention and control of infectious diseases, we bring extensive expertise in preventing, detecting, and responding to disease outbreaks and emerging pandemic threats. For more than two decades, we have helped domestic and international clients reinforce global health security through our multidisciplinary expertise in disease surveillance, public health workforce development, governance, health information systems and integration, antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, economic impact analysis, and data management and analysis.
Our global footprint and partnerships with government ministries, local public health networks, academia, the private sector and community-based organizations enables us to quickly assist frontline responders in counteracting the threats associated with COVID-19, Ebola, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), Nipah virus, Zika, malaria and other highly infectious diseases.
As a member of the Global Health Security Agenda Consortium (GHSAC) Steering Committee, we join with other non-governmental stakeholders to promote and support the goals of the GHSA and the International Health Regulations (IHR), provide expertise and resources, and participate in continuous learning opportunities to help make the world safe and secure from threats posed by infectious diseases.
Pursuing Opportunities to Save Lives Amidst Public Health Threats in At-Risk Regions
We help countries build stable foundations for global health security in areas most at risk for deadly pathogens. At-risk countries are challenged by limited resources and have historical, environmental and population attributes that are conducive to emerging infectious disease outbreaks. Some of these countries include Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. In the era of COVID-19, we have shifted priorities and resources in countries where we have existing projects, to ensure support for interventions that address pandemic challenges.
Our high-impact, life-saving responses range from strengthening surveillance and health information systems for rapid detection of infectious diseases to supporting vaccine roll-out to enhancing tools, infrastructure, and human capacity for outbreak response.
