Azoles may cause prolongation of the QT interval either directly or by inhibiting the hepatic metabolism of other QT-prolonging agents [1] S. Wassmann, G. Nickenig and M. Böhm, Long QT syndrome and torsade de pointes in a patient receiving fluconazole, Ann Intern Med 131 (1999), p. 797. View Record in Scopus | Cited By in Scopus (33)[1] and [2]. Ketoconazole is known to block the human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) product and thereby inhibit the potassium IKr current in the heart [3]. Whether fluconazole also inhibits hERG is currently unknown.
