NC State Bureau of Investigation and RTI International to host NC Missing Person Day

The goal of the event is to collect information about missing loved ones


RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — In partnership with the NC State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI), RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, will host a statewide Missing Person Day on Friday, Sept. 8.  

Who: NCSBI, RTI, National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), families of NC missing persons, and state, county and local law enforcement agencies

What: The NC Missing Person Day event will connect families affected by the disappearance of a loved one with multiple state and federal agencies to provide them with free services and resources. Families are encouraged to bring photos along with medical and dental records of their missing loved ones.

All attendees must register individually here. Attendance is free and visitor parking will be provided. A prior missing person report is encouraged but not required.

Why: The goal of the event is to collect information about missing loved ones. As of August 2023, there are 574 published cases of missing persons and 148 published cases of unidentified persons throughout North Carolina. These statistics reflect National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) entries; the actual number of cases may be higher.
