Blatecky, A., Cutcher-Gershenfeld, J. E., Michael, L., Caldwell, C., & Dent, D. (2021). The missing millions: Bridging digital divides. National Science Foundation.
“The Missing Millions– Democratizing
Computation and Data to Bridge Digital Divides and Increase Access to Science
for Underrepresented Communities”report
was submitted to NSF October 2021. The report draws on 15 focus groups
and additional individual interviews to identify concrete ways for missing
voices to be integral to science and engineering through the computing and data
infrastructure. Although the report has been widely read, a number of
community members suggested that it would also be helpful to have a short
article about the report that provided some specific ideas of what could be
done for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
community as well as feature what some people are doing. The Missing
Millions article was done in collaboration with Futurum Careers.
