Studies have demonstrated that sleep restriction adversely affects appetite regulating hormones, insulin sensitivity, inflammation and autonomic function. However, data regarding the clinical consequences of short sleep durations during pregnancy are limited. Our objective was to determine whether insufficient sleep is associated with increased risks of gestational hypertension (GHTN), preeclampsia (PE), and/or gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
