Nutrition is a critical component of early child development. Using a life-course perspective beginning during the first 1000 days (conception to age 24 months) and the nurturing care framework, in this chapter we review the evidence linking nutrition and early child development in eleven topics: (1) Early Years, (2) Pregnancy, (3) Breastfeeding, (4) Micronutrient Deficiencies, (5) Infant Growth, (6) Premature Birth and Low Birth Weight, (7) Failure to Thrive, (8) Obesity, (9) Responsive Feeding, and (10) Food Security and Environmental Stress.
