This chapter begins with a review of the categories of mental health disorders and a brief discussion of the medical and psychosocial challenges experienced by persons with mental health disorders. Employment outcomes for this population have been lower than for other populations of persons with disabilities, and the chapter explores how stigma, prejudice, and discrimination create unique barriers to full participation in families, communities, and the workplace. It explores specific approaches to case management and coordination of services with medical and other human services professionals. Next, it discusses emerging evidence-based strategies for intervention and case management of this population. The chapter then turns its attention to an overview of the most commonly known mental health disorders and provides an overview of each category and the psychosocial implications for each. It outlines the most commonly associated mental health disorders, the prevalence rate for each, and a description of the mental disorder.
