Evaluation of an unsanctioned safe consumption site in the United States
Kral, A. H., Lambdin, B. H., Wenger, L. D., & Davidson, P. J. (2020). Evaluation of an unsanctioned safe consumption site in the United States. New England Journal of Medicine, 383(6), 589-590. Article NEJMc2015435. https://doi.org/10.1056/nejmc2015435
In a 5-year experience with an unsanctioned safe site where people could inject drugs, there were 10,514 injections and 33 opioid overdoses. All the overdoses were reversed with naloxone, and none resulted in death or transfer of the person to a hospital. Combined stimulant and opioid use increased over time.
