cybercrime is associated with considerable financial losses to individuals, organizations, and governments around the globe. Even when monetary losses are partially or fully recovered, many victims remain emotionally traumatized by the experience of having their private and deeply personal information stolen. The current review has only briefly scratched the surface with regard to the diverse forms of cybercrime and the myriad challenges associated with researching and policing what has become the dominant crime of the new millennium. Open discourse such as the approach undertaken here is an important first step in encouraging further research. Moving forward, a next critical step is the development and refinement of policy and practice that also attends to the theoretically informed efforts discussed here.
