RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Amy Roussel, Ph.D., has been promoted to senior vice president of the Social Policy, Health, and Economic Research Unit at RTI International.
Previously, Roussel served as vice president of the Public Health Research division. In her new role, she will also oversee the divisions addressing health policy, behavioral health, global health, and health information technology, plus operations and business development for the entire unit.
“Amy’s breadth of experience and long tenure at RTI make her the ideal person to lead such a large and diverse unit at RTI,” said Tim Gabel, executive vice president, Social Statistical and Environmental Sciences. “She is an experienced leader with a positive style that resonates with our staff members. We’re very lucky to have her and look forward to her leadership in this new role.”
The divisions now under Roussel’s leadership includes more than 600 researchers who conduct some of RTI’s key projects on health care transformation, public health and well-being, crime and justice, and other related issues.
Roussel’s academic background is in organizational sociology. In a research career that spans more than 20 years, she has studied a variety of public health trends and services, including initiatives designed to prevent chronic disease and support adoption of innovations in health care settings.
Before joining RTI in 1998, Roussel worked as a researcher at the University of Washington, Battelle Seattle Research Center, and Thresholds Research Institute.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Duke University. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University.
