RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Triangle Business Journal recognized Anthony Hickey, Ph.D., distinguished fellow and senior research pharmacologist at RTI International, as a 2015 Life Sciences Awards winner.

The Life Sciences Awards recognize both individuals and research organizations that are breaking ground in this field, representing a number of areas, including biology, biotechnology, genomics, neuroscience and pharmacology.

"This year's list of winners reflects the power, influence and intellect present in our communities within this sector," said Bryan Michael Hamilton, publisher of the Triangle Business Journal. "In the Triangle, the life sciences industry continues to attract companies and individuals whose work and research are being monitored and revered across the globe. This sector continues to lead the Triangle's economic resurgence."

The award honors Hickey for his contributions and dedication to the life sciences field. He has more than 30 years of academic and research experience in the areas of pulmonary biology, aerosol physics, powder dynamics, pharmacokinetics and drug disposition, formulation design and device development. At RTI, he focuses on improving understanding of the physiology, pharmacology and immunology of the lungs.

In addition to his position at RTI, Hickey is an emeritus professor of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy and an adjunct professor of biomedical engineering in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Hickey is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the Society of Biology. He holds 21 patents and has published numerous papers and chapters in pharmaceutical and biomedical topics.
