Wangeci Thuo is a public health expert with more than a decade of experience in global health and development issues across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. She is a proven and successful neglected tropical diseases (NTD) advocate, harnessing partnerships with domestic and international organizations, policymakers, advocates, donors, and implementers to achieve program results such as the 2013 African Union NTD Resolution and the establishment of the Nigeria NTD Steering Committee, Advocacy and Resource Mobilization subcommittee.

Dr. Thuo currently serves as the Chief of Party (COP) and Advocacy Specialists USAID’s Act to End NTDs | East program in Nigeria, a global flagship initiative to help endemic countries fight neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). In her role as COP, she provides technical support to the Nigeria’s Ministry of Health at federal and state levels to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases and strengthen the national health system, including capacity strengthening of health personnel, supply chain management, and technical support in adherence to WHO guidelines. As Advocacy Specialist, she provides high level technical guidance and oversight, across the project, for advocacy in support of sustainability of NTD interventions.
