Timothy S. Slade is a Senior Research Technologist with over 15 years of experience in roles as a data scientist, project director, education researcher, and open-source product manager. Drawing on his wide-ranging background, Mr. Slade ensures team success by leveraging insights from other technical and scientific domains. A skilled communicator, he currently serves as Co-Principal Investigator and an ecosystem architect on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s Biodata Catalyst program, bridging gaps between software developers, scientific experts, and policymakers. Mr. Slade leads analytics, internal, and external research teams, driving strategic and tactical leadership decisions on the basis of data. He is equally at ease as a senior individual contributor or as a leader directing 40+ staff and managing annual budgets of over $15 million.

He conceived and developed the prototype of Loquat, a mobile application that uses automated speech recognition to provide instructional coaching for classroom teachers. He served as the product lead for development of RTI’s Self-Administered EGRA/EGMA tool. Before that, he led Tangerine®-based data collection and reporting of EGRA/EGMA assessments of over 15,000 children. Projects on which he served as deputy project director have trained over 120,000 teachers, improving instruction for roughly 3 million children.

Mr. Slade is fluent in French and Spanish and has limited proficiency in modern standard Arabic.
