Marian T. Sullivan is a senior research epidemiologist with 35 years of experience in project management, epidemiology, and statistics. In support of the National Institutes of Health and other partners, her work has focused primarily on blood disorders, as well as blood safety and supply and their impacts on public health.

Currently, Ms. Sullivan provides regulatory support to the Hemophilia A Analytical Cohort Research Program (HARP) project, a multicenter observational study of FVIII immunogenicity in severe hemophilia funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Ms. Sullivan is also on the PhenX (consensus measures for Phenotypes and eXposures) Toolkit team, recently serving as a working group supervisor for two expert panels specific to sickle cell disease, psychosocial and social determinants of health, and pregnancy. In this role, she provided research and administrative support to the panels, guided the deliberation process, and prepared data sheets for the Toolkit’s database.

Her previous experience includes serving as co-principal investigator for the NHLBI-funded Recipient Epidemiology and Donor Evaluation Study-III (REDS-III) Data Coordinating Center. Through this work, Ms. Sullivan designed and conducted nationwide surveys of blood collection and transfusion activities, served as principal investigator for emerging infections and blood recipient lookback investigations, directed cohort and case-control studies of transfusion-transmitted infections, developed and evaluated infectious disease assays for donated blood, and managed observational studies of blood disorders. Throughout her career, she has published many articles and statistical reports regarding blood safety and adequacy in the United States and other countries.

Prior to coming to RTI, Ms. Sullivan was the Executive Director of the National Blood Data Resource Center, where she directed the analysis of data from the National Blood Collection and Utilization Survey and presented data on blood supply and safety issues to the Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability, the Blood Products Advisory Committee, the United States Congress, and the National Blood Safety Council of Canada.
