Leah Dean is a survey scientist in RTI’s Survey Research Division. Dr. Dean has more than 5 years of experience working in community and regional health status and health policy surveys. She is experienced in providing leadership and support for all stages of the survey research process, including study design, instrument design, data collection production and quality monitoring, report writing, and data delivery.

Currently, she is the task lead of the National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP), which is the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ primary data collection series focused on pretrial release and detention, financial conditions of release, and success or failure during pretrial release. The goal of NPRP is to compile information on the case processing of individuals charged with felonies in state criminal courts from case filing through case disposition. She is responsible for leading the data capacity survey team in the creation of a web-based survey to determine court and pretrial agency staff’s ability to collect, extract, and provide the data that could be used to support the NPRP. Since 2020, Dr. Dean has served as the Task Lead of the Primary Care First Patient Experience of Care Survey (PCF PECS). PCF is an innovative payment model that builds upon the foundations of the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus model to support the delivery of advanced primary care. Dr. Dean oversees the survey team in all processes and materials required to establish practice-funded survey for vendors to conduct the patient experience of care survey each fall.

Previously, Dr. Dean has worked as a project manager for the Greater Cincinnati Adult Tobacco Survey, Child Well-Being Survey and Ohio Health Issues Poll. Before joining RTI in 2020, she worked as a research associate for the University of Cincinnati Institute for Policy Research.
