Dan Charette is an economic development specialist with 19 years of experience in program management, consulting, and new business acquisition for international development programs. 

As Associate Director of RTI’s Food Security and Agriculture Division, within the International Development Group, Mr. Charette concurrently serves as a lead technical writer on proposals, project manager for economic development projects in East Africa, and staff manager for a cohort of junior-, mid-, and senior-level staff including project Chiefs of Party. 

He is a skilled project manager providing operational support throughout the project life cycle: start-up, client and subcontractor relations, team management, contract compliance, project budgets, consultant recruitment, quarterly project reviews, project reporting/marketing, and closedown. 

Prior to joining RTI, Mr. Charette was the Director of Business Development for The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU’s) U.S. Government Practice. In this role, he grew the EIU’s U.S. Government consulting practice from scratch, developing a portfolio for 5+ projects valued at $4 million.  

Mr. Charette started his professional career at DAI, where he worked for 13 years in a range of roles spanning project management, new business development, technical thought leadership, and knowledge management. His technical experience includes two years as Economic Policy Advisor for USAID-funded Africa LEAD II Project, Project Manager and Acting Chief of Party for the USAID-funded Mozambique Support Program for Economic and Enterprise Development (SPEED), and roles as Economic Governance Advisor for development of a 10-year strategy for Nigeria’s rice value chain and business environment reform strategies for Somaliland and Ethiopia.
