Christine S. Brennan has more than 30 years of experience researching, implementing, and evaluating HIV prevention and treatment programs. While pursuing her PhD in health policy, Dr. Brennan completed her dissertation, “Characteristics that affect HIV infected individuals’ utilization of HIV medical care.” She is proficient in government-funded project management and has experience conducting research with high-risk and hard-to-reach populations, ensuring institutional review board approval, collecting data, and providing practice transformation support and academic detailing.

From 2018 to 2022, Dr. Brennan worked to improve STI testing and treatment among people living with or at risk for HIV. She served as the Louisiana regional principal investigator on the Health Resources and Services Administration–funded special project to demonstrate the impact of four clinical and nonclinical interventions to improve STI screening and treatment, including the use of Audio-Computer Assisted Self-Interview to improve screening. As a result of this work, the practice of “Ask. Test. Treat. Repeat” was established for STI screening and treatment.

As a licensed nurse practitioner and public health faculty member, Dr. Brennan provided (1) continuing health care education across several disciplines and professional levels, (2) clinical administration, (3) federal and state grant management, and (4) advanced health technology implementation. Dr. Brennan coauthored a seminal article regarding HIV nursing care, “HIV Immunopathogenesis” and is an ongoing contributing author to Clinical Guidelines in Primary Care, an essential asset in advanced practice nursing. With her extensive research and clinical background, she has served on numerous state and national advisory boards and is active in various professional organizations, including the American Association of Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.
