Casey Horvitz is a research communications analyst who applies technology-based and communications interventions for tobacco cessation, diabetes self-management, HIV prevention and care, chronic disease, and sexual health. Over the last decade, Casey has implemented qualitative and mixed methods research, including leading in-depth interviews and focus groups, literature reviews, and qualitative analyses.

Casey supports projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As the research public health analyst and recruitment co-lead for NIH's All of Us Research Program—for which RTI serves as an Engagement and Retention Innovator—Casey works with other consortium members and awardees to research, deliver, and evaluate multicultural, experiential learning engagements for communities and providers. In her role, she is responsible for co-leading the recruitment team and supporting co-creation workshop design and implementation for more than 450 participants. In addition to this work, Casey currently serves as a research public health analyst on 3 CDC-funded projects that are testing communication methods and messages for diabetes prevention, e-cigarette use prevention among youth, and HIV prevention. Her duties include environmental scans and literature reviews, qualitative data collection, reporting on campaign evaluation, analysis and report writing, among other contributions.

She has additional skill and training in message testing, plain language, campaign evaluation, and stakeholder and community engagement strategies in diverse settings. Casey is particularly passionate about engaging with and supporting underserved communities (e.g., LGBTQ+ populations), as well as youth and other groups who are underrepresented in research.

Before joining RTI, Casey worked in UNC Chapel Hill’s Behavior and Technology lab, engaging youth at risk of or infected with HIV in technology-based behavior change interventions to promote testing, PrEP uptake, and disclosure.
