Connect

Carmen Daniel is a behavioral scientist/public health researcher at RTI. She designs and evaluates public health promotion programs and chronic disease prevention programs to promote nutrition, physical activity, and obesity and cardiovascular disease prevention. She connects with clients across stakeholder groups to gather insights on public health experiences. Ms. Daniel is also conducting grantee interviews across stakeholder groups (local health departments, healthcare organizations, hospital systems, and partnerships).

Currently, Ms. Daniel works on the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) Centers for Excellence in Total Worker Health (TWH) project, where she collects and analyzes data and conducts implementation interviews with key stakeholders. She contributes to the science of total worker health measurement and business case value through internal reports and manuscript development.

Additionally, she is a health equity content expert and qualitative analyst within the community task for the New York Tobacco Control Program (NY TCP) for the New York State Health Department. Ms. Daniel works on a comprehensive evaluation of the NY TCP, where she analyzes qualitative data, including surveys, local opinion leader interviews, and internal and public facing reports to inform local level intervention improvement and adaption. 

Ms. Daniel works on the Connecting Kids to Coverage HEALTHY KIDS and American Indian/Alaska Native Outreach and Enrollment Program Evaluation, as well as the Getting Further Faster work with ASTHO/NACCHO, where she interviews federal grantees, developing internal and public facing reports.

Ms. Daniel joined RTI in 2022. She has over a decade experience working at a state public health department. She led chronic disease programs and evaluation across the lifespan, including Georgia’s state childhood obesity initiative and a worksite wellness program of 6,000+ state and local public health employees. Ms. Daniel led and co-chaired statewide committees and coalitions, including the following:

  • Farm to early care and education coalition
  • Nutrition and physical activity assessment review
  • Childhood obesity committees in the core areas of healthcare, physical activity, data, and evaluation
  • State nutrition action coalition
  • Quality rated and improvement system review committee for early and school-age care and education programs

In addition to her work, Ms. Daniel is a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine.
