Connect

Beth Hustedt is a justice researcher whose qualitative work focuses on racial and economic disparities within the criminal legal system and centers the voices of people with lived experience. Areas of focus include pretrial processes, indigent defense models, jury representativeness, and restorative justice practices. She also conducts policy-oriented research and recently led an effort to analyze record clearing laws, particularly focused on states that have moved from petition-based to state-initiated policies. 

Beth has worked on projects for the National Institute of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the U.S. Department of Education, and for various local agencies, organizations, and foundations. Her findings have been published and presented in technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and at national conferences.  

Prior to joining RTI in 2015, Beth evaluated higher education policy initiatives and also served as a deputy legislative counsel to a state legislature.
