What does it mean to read like a scientist? Or to read like a mathematician or historian? During this session, middle and high school educators will explore discipline-specific literacy needs, consider aspects of complex texts, and identify pre-, during-, and post-reading strategies that provide students with targeted support to access and increase their comprehension of complex, authentic texts. By the end of the session, participants will
- Identify and discuss authentic texts and discipline-specific literacy needs
- Define elements of complex texts
- Experience literacy strategies to support student access to and comprehension of complex texts
