RTI International is excited to participate in the Africa Energy Forum's new virtual series, aef2.0, which is gathering leaders from across the energy industry this summer to discuss current issues.
On Thursday, July 2nd, RTI Senior Research Energy Specialist Amer Barghouth will participate in a panel called EnergyNet Digital Broadcasts: Out of Response into Recovery Women and Energy and Agriculture at 15:00 BST.
This panel will examine how new energy technology can combat sub-Saharan Africa’s 7% drop in agriculture production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also look at how this energy technology has the power to break down gender barriers.
As a panelist, Barghouth will discuss RTI’s data-driven, evidence-based approach to energy development. Barghouth manages the RTI-implemented and USAID-funded Power Africa Off-grid Project, which aims to create 6 million off-grid connections by 2022. To meet this goal, his team is working with private companies to improve business operations and scale up sustainable business models for rural off-grid electrification in 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
