2020 NCAGT Annual Conference

Providing all students with the tools and resources to meet their unique educational needs is a goal that teachers, administrators, and parents all work towards achieving. Gifted learners require a specialized, appropriately challenging curriculum featuring evidence-based practices to support their social and emotional needs. The North Carolina Association for the Gifted and Talented (NCAGT) is dedicated to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of academically and socially gifted students.

The NCAGT 2020 Conference supports the bright future of gifted education, and Frank McKay, an education consultant at The RTI Center for Education Services, will present with Durham Public School's Kim Marion at the event to share knowledge and expertise empowering gifted students to flourish in the classroom. Additional details about the session are included below. RTI will also have a booth at the conference, so feel free to stop by our exhibit for insight or questions concerning the best methods for supporting gifted students in the classroom. 

Engaging Advanced Learners in Authentic Inquiry

Inquiry is a powerful instructional approach that develops students as creative problem solvers. This interactive session seeks to build an understanding of inquiry through experience and provide participants with strategies to engage advanced learners in rigorous, authentic learning.

Presenters:
Frank McKay, RTI International, has dedicated his career to designing and improving educational experiences for students and educators. As an expert in professional learning, he leads the design and facilitation of professional development for K-12 educators on topics ranging from inquiry and project-based learning to instructional leadership.

Kim Marion, Durham Public Schools, has supported teaching and learning at the local, state, and national levels and currently serves as Region IV Director for Magnet Schools of America. Throughout her 20+ year tenure in North Carolina Public Schools, she has taught at the middle and high school levels and served as a high school principal.
