Project focuses on strengthening accountability systems and civil society
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has selected RTI International, a nonprofit research institute and leading international development organization, to implement the Partners for Accountability Activity in Uganda. The project will work closely with both anti-corruption institutions and local actors to strengthen accountability processes and implementation.
“This new project will build on previous efforts by the Government of Uganda, development partners and citizens to ensure that there is follow through on processes focusing on strengthening accountability systems, in particular, implementation of recommendations,” said Eva Matsiko, RTI’s chief of party for the project and an expert with over 20 years of governance experience in Uganda. “By working closely with accountability institutions, within sectors and with civil society, media houses and citizen groups, the project will promote transparency in public service delivery and fiscal management.”
Over the next four years, RTI will work closely with Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE), the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG), Besa Global, the East African Centre for Investigative Reporting (EACIR), SEMA, and Transparency International Uganda (TIU).
This collaboration aims to strengthen partnerships across sectors and regions with key national and local anti-corruption and accountability institutions. The goal is to increase their reach and coverage, enhance citizen involvement, improve compliance monitoring, and enhance the implementation of accountability recommendations. The project will also work with citizens and public and private sector actors to identify social norms that foster corruption and develop strategies to counter them within communities and institutions.
Through this project, RTI’s Center for Governance will apply its expertise and strategic approaches on integrated governance, accountability, political economy analysis, and strengthening local organizations, which have improved governance systems, public participation and transparency in countries around the world.
