Recognition acknowledges VP of government relations for his leadership and dedication
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Triangle Business Journal (TBJ) has recognized James Hunter, vice president, government relations at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, as a 40 Under 40 award recipient. The awards recognize outstanding professionals under the age of 40 for their contributions to their organizations and to the community.
Hunter leads and develops comprehensive government relations strategy for the institute with a team of government relations professionals split between Raleigh and Washington, D.C. He advises and coordinates with RTI executives, business leaders, researchers and partners to identify and advance institute priorities.
"It’s an honor to be recognized alongside young professionals making a positive impact in our region,” said Hunter. “I look forward to continuing to enhance RTI’s ability to partner and grow locally, nationally, and internationally.
Hunter regularly engages with policymakers on RTI’s business priorities and expertise, including matters related to international development, technology, research, health, education, defense, energy, economic and environmental policy. In his six years with RTI, he has exceeded expectations in a position that requires him to regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams and adjust to changing political and policy environments. This year, he was also appointed to the North Carolina Board of Science, Technology and Innovation by Governor Roy Cooper.
A Triangle native and a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Duke University, Hunter is also a Marshall Memorial Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and serves as the co-chair of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Roundtable.
