Climate change experts available for interviews on extreme heat conditions and impact

Risk assessment, mitigation and adaptation are essential to protect human health


RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Heat-related deaths have increased by 85% for people over the age of 65. The historically hot temperatures this year underscore the urgency for climate action now.

Experts at nonprofit research institute RTI International are available for media interviews related to extreme heat in the U.S. and around the world. RTI researchers recently published this article on extreme heat and the need for urgent climate action.

Aleisha Khan is a senior climate advisor for RTI’s International Development Group. She supports the cross-institute integration of research and international programs to tackle the global challenge of climate change. She can speak on the environment, risk and resilience, climate change and clean energy.

Jonathan Schwarz is an environment and climate change advisor within RTI’s Agriculture, Water, and Environment (AWE) Division. He can speak about international development and climate change, natural resources, forestry, land use management, biodiversity conservation, and climate action planning and environmental policy.

Paramita Sinha is a senior environmental economist in RTI's Environment Practice Area. She can speak to the need for equitable and climate-resilient urban planning and the importance of tree cover to help reduce heat-related mortality. She has extensive experience developing models of climate impacts on human health and well-being.
