I enjoyed reading George Davey Smith's commentary on the limitations of epidemiology [ 1 ]. In it he ascribed to me two beliefs, one about objectivity, and the other about mandatory disclosures of conflicts of interest. In fact, neither belief is one that I actually hold. I doubt that my actual beliefs matter much to Davey Smith's arguments about the limitations of epidemiology, but inasmuch as they are different from what is ascribed to me, I do wish to set the record straight.
