Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Michael Honeycutt's letter to the editor. We provided a calculation in the discussion of our publication to put the ingested doses of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in mice during the National Toxicological Program's 2-year bioassay into context with potential human exposure. This information was a minor component of the publication and was not presented in the context of a human risk assessment. As with any calculation, certain assumptions were made as outlined in the paper. Specifically, we calculated a time-weighted average daily dose of Cr(VI) for the entire 2-year mouse study based on water consumption and body weight data recorded over the course of the study and determined the equivalent human daily dose.
