RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International and its staff members donated $87,395 to the American Red Cross Typhoon Appeal for Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines.
Shortly after Typhoon Haiyan cased mass devastation in the Philippines Nov. 8, RTI offered to donate $25,000 to the relief effort and match employee contributions up to an additional $25,000.
In response, 350 staff members contributed $37,395 and RTI added $50,000, for a total contribution of $87,395.
RTI President and CEO Wayne Holden presented the donations to representatives from the Central North Carolina chapter of the Red Cross Thursday, Dec. 5.
RTI staff members work on various projects in the Philippines, including in areas such as education, health, and information and communication technology.
“We are fortunate that our staff members in the Philippines are all okay, but many of their families are impacted and our hearts go out to everyone in the region,” Holden said. “Our staff members have again shown their extreme generosity to help those in need. We are pleased to support the disaster relief efforts of the American Red Cross.”
The Red Cross is using donations to provide assistance in the hardest hit communities, including assisting in search and rescue efforts and distributing food and relief supplies to survivors. In addition, the American Red Cross has deployed disaster relief specialists and has activated tracing services for relatives and friends to be able to locate loved ones.
