RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International has appointed James (Jim) Gibson chief operating officer, a new position created to strengthen long-range planning and business operations at the institute.
Gibson, who since 2000 has served as RTI’s chief financial officer, will be responsible for developing long-range plans and supporting investments, and will also guide the strategy for RTI's laboratory-based business.
“Jim will be my second in command and will work with me across the institute to help us achieve our vision,” said Wayne Holden, RTI’s president and CEO. “His strong business sense and financial insight will be a significant help to me as we move forward.”
Gibson joined RTI as chief financial officer in 2000. He began his finance career at Ernst & Ernst in 1976 in New Jersey. In 1980, he joined Hughes Aircraft Company in Southern California, holding a number of financial-related positions of increasing responsibility.
In 1985, he joined the corporate office of Rockwell International Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he held various executive level positions, including assistant corporate controller.
Gibson is a licensed attorney with a bachelor's degree from State College of New Jersey-Ramapo, a master's in business administration from The University of Southern California and a juris doctor degree from Duquesne University.
In addition to his active participation in many professional associations, he is a member of the board of directors of Nextreme Thermal Solutions and an advisory board member of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
