Marlito Guidote

Marlito (Mar) Guidote brings decades of experience helping protect the environment and biodiversity in the Philippines. He is the Deputy Chief of Party for the USAID Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans, and Landscapes (SIBOL) Activity. SIBOL conserves natural resources and supports inclusive green economic growth in the Philippines by working with the Philippine government, private sector, and local communities to strengthen informed decision making, enhance economic incentives, stimulate public and private sector investments, and reduce environmental crime. 

Prior to joining RTI, Mr. Guidote served as Director of External and Government Relations at Oceana, an organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world’s oceans.

Mr. Guidote has more than two decades of staff and consulting experience in ocean- and marine-related organizational development. He was Deputy Chief of Party of a flagship program in fisheries management supported by USAID Philippines. He has provided technical assistance for community-based fishery enforcement, trained maritime law enforcement groups, developed marine life rescue plans, and drafted environmental policies.

He has worked closely with government and civic organizations within the Philippines, such as the Department of Agriculture: Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine National Police.

Mr. Guidote has also been a speaker and facilitator of large conferences and seminars at international conferences on fishery compliance and marine ecosystems management and has co-authored guidebooks and other official publications on these subjects.

He is a member of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and an Advisory Council Member of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group. He sits as a member of the board of trustees in numerous non-profit foundations.
