World Water Week 2023
Date
We are excited to join partners and colleagues at World Water Week 2023 in Stockholm. This year’s theme is Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water-Wise World. Climate change and water scarcity issues require new ways of thinking around how we will manage water.
This year, RTI is presenting two sessions. We are partnering with the International Development Bank (IDB) to lead a session in which we will share new strategies, tools, methodologies, and technologies being developed by water operators to bolster efficiencies in providing water and sanitation services. We are also partnering with the Southern Water and Sanitation Company as well as Access Water to present a session that will discuss the role of the private sector in introducing new approaches to water and sanitation service provision. Session: Empowering Water Operators with Innovative Tools for Sustainable Operations
Date: August 23, 2023
Time: 14:00-15:30 (CET) / 8:00-9:30 (EDT)
Location: C2
Format: On-site Hybrid
Rapid urbanization of the Latin American and Caribbean regions has posed significant challenges regarding climate change. But water operators are leading the way to tackle these challenges by establishing innovative practices and methodologies to ensure sustainable water use for the long term. And they are doing this because it’s the right thing to do, as the incentive mechanisms in the water and sanitation sectors are minimal at best.
We will showcase some of the leading strategies, tools, and technologies for broadening access to water while improving management and operational efficiency. The three-part session will feature:
- Operators sharing their perspectives on innovation management;
- The latest tools and methodologies for increasing efficiencies; and
- Practical examples of successful applications of innovative solutions and practices.

Session: Private Sector Innovations: A Zambia Case Study
Date: August 23, 2023
Time: 16:00-16:30 (CET) / 10:00-10:30 (EDT)
Format: Online Showcase
To achieve Sustainable Development Goal Six – ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all – government and private sector actors must work together. Strategic forums that promote dialogue between the public and private sector have proven effective for facilitating cross-sector relationships that lead to innovative water and sanitation service provision.
Through presenting case studies from Zambia, representatives from the public sector, the private sector, and RTI’s USAID Expanding Water and Sanitation implementing team will showcase how convening Private Sector Engagement Forums enabled partnerships that led to the establishment of the first small-scale water, sanitation, and hygiene transactions in Zambia.
