RTI will be presenting at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD) at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland from November 18 - 19. The goal of the COR-NTD meeting is to strengthen the community of NTD researchers, program implementers and their supporters to address knowledge gaps in a coordinated way, and to inform the agenda of future NTD research. Join the conversation online by using #COR_NTD19.
RTI at COR-NTD
RTI experts will present their latest operational research on neglected tropical diseases. Check out where we'll be presenting at COR-NTD below!
Breakout Session 1:
When: Monday, November 18, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
1C: "Eradicating Trachoma by 2030?"
- About: The current programmatic goal for trachoma is control (“elimination as a public health problem”) by the year 2020, but eradication may be a more sustainable goal than control. This session will review the evidence in support of eradication compared to control, including the pros and cons and strategies required for each goal.
- RTI expert: Jeremiah Ngondi
Breakout Session 3:
When: Tuesday, November 19, 1:00PM - 4:00PM
3A: "Turning Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) Survery Failiures into Success"
- About: Ongoing transmission of LF, as evidenced by survey failures, hinders elimination. There are currently no standardized tools to support the rapid collection and analysis of qualitative information on determinants of MDA coverage that can used in programmatic contexts, to imporve subsequent MDAs.
- RTI expert: Margaret Baker
3B: "Supporting Countries to Generate High Quality NTD Prevalence Data"
- About: To ensure optimal data for decision-making, can a globally standardized methodology to collect high-quality prevalence data, which also supports countries through the continuum of the survey process, act as a blueprint across the NTDs? Where are the gaps in the process and how can they be addressed?
- RTI expert: Clara Burgert-Brucker
3C: "Trachoma Surveillance: Are Countries Prepared to Sustain Elimination Gains?"
- About: There is an urgency for the global trachoma community to further the discussion about the operational research questions that will guide development of the evidence base needed to build feasible and robust post-validation surveillance guidance.
- RTI expert: Jeremiah Ngondi
RTI at ASTMH
Right after COR-NTD, RTI will also be exhibiting and presenting at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygience (ASTMH) in National Harbor. Learn more about our presence at ASTMH.
