RTI and Radiant Solutions Launch STPredict for Hydropower Producers and Energy Traders in the Pacific Northwest

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC- RTI International and Radiant Solutions have partnered to create a new product, STPredict, to provide an accurate and timely depiction of changes on the Northwest River Forecast Center (NWRFC) Single Trace Procedure (STP) before it is publicly released.

Researchers in RTI International’s Center for Water Resources developed STPredict as a “forecast of the forecast” of the STP. While the current STP is released only once a week, RTI’s STPredict offers traders the ability to anticipate changes to the STP before the official forecast and more frequently throughout the week.

This product will produce two daily forecasts at 11:00 am ET for four locations: Grand Coulee, The Dalles, Lower Granite, and Chief Joseph. The forecast confidence bounds are based on historical accuracy of the STPredict to calculate STP and RTI-Forecast performance in forecasting observed inflows. With the integration of machine learning, the accuracy of the forecasts will continuously improve over time.
