Cristina Bisson promoted to vice president of global health

Bisson brings more than 25 years of experience in the global health field

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Cristina Bisson has been promoted to vice president of global health in the International Development Group (IDG) business unit at RTI International, a nonprofit research institute and leading international development organization.

“I’m thrilled to announce Cristina as the new leader of our global health team, which is essential to our international development portfolio and long-standing mission to improve the human condition,” said Paul Weisenfeld, executive vice president of IDG. “Cristina’s blend of leadership skills, technical expertise and business acumen will enable her to lead global health to sustained success.”

Bisson is a registered nurse and public health practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in the global health field. She has been a member of RTI’s global health team since 2016 and led the health systems strengthening portfolio since 2018, serving as the interim leader of the division since March.

“I’m completely delighted to take on this new role and honored to lead such a talented team,” Bisson said. “Global health is a central part of RTI’s mission and I’m looking forward to building on our many strengths, growing our impact in new areas, and continuing to innovate to save and improve lives around the world.”

Bisson’s diverse experience in the global health sector ranges from community health and development to program design and management, to portfolio and team leadership across global health areas such as integrated health systems, maternal and child health, family planning and malaria. She brings a client-focused approach that she developed working directly with clients in different capacities to understand what drives them and how best to partner with them.

RTI is dedicated to improving global health through programs that deliver equitable access to life-saving interventions, as well as research that expands the evidence base for global health interventions. Areas of focus include strengthening health systems, integrated health services (including noncommunicable diseases), global health security and eliminating infectious diseases such as neglected tropical diseases and malaria.
