The conference will convene experts and attendees from around the world for unique panel and poster sessions on topics related to substance use and gender
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The International Women’s and Children’s Health and Gender (InWomen’s) Group will meet for the 15th InWomen’s Group Conference on Friday, June 16, in-person in Denver, Colorado. InWomen’s is a multidisciplinary group addressing all aspects of substance use among women, children and youth with respect to gender differences.
The conference — sponsored by the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW), the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), RTI International and the RTI Global Gender Center — will convene experts and attendees from around the world for unique panel and poster sessions on topics related to substance use and gender across 13 countries, including Colombia, Israel, Malaysia, Peru, Taiwan, Czechia, Brazil, Kenya, Nepal, Ethiopia, South Africa, Canada and the U.S.
The day will open with grounding poetry from Tegan Carr, founder of the Medicine Objective, and a welcome from InWomen’s Chair Dr. Wendee Wechsberg and NIDA Program Official Dr. Angela Lee-Winn.
The global agenda comprises three panel sessions, including topics spanning the intersectional spectrum of how substance use and trauma impacts the lives of women and children, families, and LGBTQIA+ individuals; flash poster presentations from selected abstracts on racial disparities in non-fatal overdose; reproductive outcomes in the young women who use methamphetamine; gender differences in the associations between family emotional connection and substance use and mental health outcomes; and a final panel on women’s treatment and lived experiences from women in recovery.
Attendees will also engage in networking discussions around five thematic topics related to substance use, along with two poster sessions.
