The U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent Suicide (1999) challenged the nation to address suicide as a serious public health problem. In keeping with the Call to Action, the military services have taken significant steps to enhance suicide prevention efforts throughout the Department of Defense (DOD). In this article, we describe the results of an ongoing organizational assessment and intervention to improve suicide prevention within the Department of the Navy (DON).
