The state of Florida has developed legislation and policies to promote the use of industry- recognized certifications: students who pass an industry-recognized exam generate additional resources for the district they attend, and can earn postsecondary credits applicable in Florida institutions of higher education. NCICTE researchers are documenting the changes in the number and type of students pursuing and earning technical certifications as a result of these policies. Researchers are also assessing whether awarding postsecondary credits to certification earners affects their educational and employment outcomes, including high school completion, enrollment and persistence in postsecondary education, and employment status.
