Remote Sensing for Food Security Decision Making in Low- and Middle- Income Contexts: Bridging the Gap Between Science and Policy

There is great potential for remote sensing technologies to obtain agricultural information that could benefit decision makers in low- and middle-income countries. However, in many cases there remains a disconnect between the remote sensing scientists gathering and processing the data and the agricultural decision makers who could ultimately benefit from using the data. A flurry of investments aim to put remote sensing information into agricultural decision makers’ toolbox. Those of us working to solve this problem can benefit from sharing insights and best practices that will help bridge the gap between science and policy and advance the sector as a whole to improve food security.

Join us to share and discuss how remote sensing products can be deployed to better support decision-making around food security. Some questions we hope to discuss include but are not limited to:

• How can remote sensing data products be tailored to better answer decision makers’ questions and effectively disseminated to decision makers?
• How might the remote sensing community be more responsive to decision makers’ needs and priorities?
• How might the remote sensing community make data products more sustainable, scalable, and capable of providing decision support over the long term? 

We look forward to sharing experiences, insights, challenges and questions in a casual conversational format to inform future work and partnerships in this space. Please note this event is not open to the public.
