Building Literacy Through STEM
Date
Quality STEM education prepares all students with flexible and adaptable competence in mathematics, science and technology, and the ability to design and communicate solutions to real problems with confidence, ingenuity and thoughtfulness. To accomplish this vision, critical STEM content must be integrated with intentional literacy practices so students learn to communicate, think critically, and design with empathy. In this two-day session, participants will engage in explorations, dialogue, and planning as we explore together the intersections of literacy and STEM practices. Through text-rich STEM experiences, participants will consider practices that promote deep STEM and literacy learning.
Outcomes:
- Understand the value of integrating literacy and STEM.
- Evaluate powerful instructional practices that promote literacy learning in STEM.
- Collaborate to design STEM instruction with embedded deep literacy practices.
