Erin Huber is a Postdoctoral Scientist at RTI where she is an expert in in vitro toxicology. She utilizes complex in vitro models of the respiratory tract to evaluate the effects from test article exposures on human health. She constructs and uses multi-cellular in vitro models for chemical testing. Dr. Huber also works to develop harmonized experimental methods to advance the use of these applications for regulatory decision making. 

Currently, Dr. Huber is the co-lead on a project that characterizes the mechanisms of toxicity from repeated e-cigarette exposure in primary human respiratory epithelial co-culture models. These cellular models are generated from adolescent and adult donors. She is also the co-lead in an international cross-sectoral collaboration effort describing a harmonized protocol and reporting standards for the use of the trans-epithelial electrical resistance (TEER) assay for evaluating the effects of inhaled chemicals on in vitro models of the respiratory tract. Additionally, Dr. Huber is a lead biologist on a project for the first use of in vitro primary human respiratory epithelial cell models from three regions of the respiratory tract of an inhaled gas under a Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Test Order.

Dr. Huber was selected for the 2024 Colgate-Palmolive Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in In Vitro Toxicology.

Before joining RTI in 2023, Dr. Huber was an ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where she developed guidance to build context for use of common dosing methodologies used to evaluate the effect of inhaled materials on the respiratory tract using differentiated primary human bronchial epithelial cell models.
