Fuels and Chemicals
For more than 20 years, we have been developing process technologies to enable the production of clean liquid fuels and chemicals. We have substantial expertise in removing sulfur from hydrocarbon streams such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and naphtha, and in the synthesis of clean liquid fuels (mixed alcohols and ethanol) from coal and biomass syngas.
Technologies and Projects
Hydrocarbon Desulfurization
Our engineers and scientists have developed a process for removing sulfur from hydrocarbon streams using a novel sorbent technology. Compared to more severe, conventional hydrotreating, our process provides refiners a cost-effective way to meet sulfur specifications for gasoline and diesel.
Coal and Biomass to Liquids
We have built more than 15 years of experience in converting fossil fuel- and biomass-derived syngas to liquid fuels, fuel intermediates, and value-added chemicals. For more information on our efforts in these research areas, see Advanced Gasification and Biomass and Biofuels.
