RTI International Names Tim Gabel Executive Vice President of Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences Group

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Tim J. Gabel has been promoted to executive vice president of the Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences group at RTI International.
In his new role, Gabel oversees the largest group at RTI, responsible for designing and conducting complex national surveys and economic, statistical, epidemiological and social policy research for government agencies and commercial clients. His responsibilities include program development, personnel recruitment and overall management for a staff of approximately 1,400 and yearly revenues of approximately $340 million.
Gabel joined RTI in 1983 and had been vice president of the Survey and Computing Sciences Unit since 2005. Prior to that, he was director of the Research Computing Division and served in several management and technical roles within the Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences group.
"Tim is uniquely qualified for this position," said Wayne Holden, president and CEO of RTI. "He brings to the position many years of experience and a deep understanding of our business and our clients' needs."
Over the past several years, Gabel has been at the forefront of RTI's efforts to conceptualize and develop Internet applications for research activities. He has extensive experience directing data collection and data processing activities for scientific research studies.
Gabel has authored 40 papers, books, book chapters and technical reports. He is a member of the American Statistical Association, American Association for Public Opinion Research and Society for Information Management.
Gabel holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, and a bachelor's in statistics from the University of Wyoming.
