RTI launches new Center for Governance

New concentration of expertise will leverage partnerships to deliver good governance around the world
 

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International, a nonprofit research institute and leading international development organization, today announced its new Center for Governance to promote strong, stable and inclusive societies across the globe.

“Governance is at the core of international development success,” said Paul Weisenfeld, executive vice president for international development at RTI. “It influences systems and institutions in every sector and serves as a catalyst for reform. RTI has a decades-long legacy of leading governance projects around the world that increase transparency and accountability, mitigate corruption and help government actors to better deliver on the needs of citizens.”

Boasting a global reach, the RTI Center for Governance includes partners, expertise and learning from major initiatives spanning Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia. The center will leverage RTI’s longstanding local partnerships to bring together governments, civil society, the private sector and communities to define problems and jointly create sustainable solutions in countries around the world.

“The international political landscape is constantly evolving – which is why RTI collaborates with local partners to fit the unpredictable and fluid nature of the communities we work with,” said Jana Hertz, director of RTI’s Center for Governance. “Through our Center for Governance, we will continue to promote strong, resilient and inclusive societies by empowering people and strengthening institutions. In partnership with local communities, RTI will co-develop outcome-oriented solutions to challenging governance issues to increase impact in creative ways.”

Housed within RTI’s International Development Group, the Center for Governance will continue to build the evidence base for effective governance, specializing in helping clients and local partners with the design, development and implementation of results-oriented, integrated solutions for complex topics such as:

• Decentralization and local governance 

• Public service delivery and integrated governance 

• Transparency, accountability and anti-corruption 

• Institutional and system strengthening 

• Civil society strengthening and empowering local voices 

• Capacity building and leadership development 

• Political economy analysis and adaptive management 

RTI’s research, analysis and integrated governance approach creates real-world solutions with significant impact. For example, 600,000 people now have access to clean water as part of RTI’s work in Nigeria and $11 million was leveraged to combat the root causes of migration in Guatemala.
