What is biodiversity conservation?
Biodiversity conservation depends on a commitment to a balanced, healthy environment and ecosystem for communities and wildlife to thrive. A loss in biodiversity poses a significant threat to that balance for species, habitats, and local communities; in other words, where there is loss of biodiversity, there is a paradigm shift in how that ecosystem can sustain life – all life.
RTI’s work aims to create or improve a Planetary Health balance in ecosystems where wildlife and marine populations, natural habitats, and empowered communities are resilient and prosperous. To do this effectively, RTI works with communities, host-country governments, and the private sector to support the effective management of key biodiversity landscapes, seascapes, and species and promote market-based solutions that will incentivize conservation.
Our approach to conservation
As a research institute, RTI brings scientific expertise and evidence-based approaches to its work. The data derived make for more informed, more effective decisions in conservation practices that target core biodiversity threats and drivers. This information can promote and incentivize biodiversity conservation practices through economic, financial, and social investments as well as policy initiatives.
RTI works to increase institutional capacities of both public and private sector holders through training, integrated approaches, and coordination and consensus-building amongst stakeholders.
