Shwetha Maddur is an Innovation Advisor, specializing in medical technology at RTI Innovation Advisors. She brings over a decade of experience and expertise, operating at the intersection of medicine, engineering, and business. She applies her knowledge of innovation best practices to advise small businesses with their go-to-market strategy and business models as an assessment lead for the NIH’s SEED TABA needs assessment program. She has generated insights for novel medical device/drug development programs through market research outreach with stakeholders across the clinical care ecosystem as a part of the NIH Catalyze program and NC TraCS initiative. Ms. Maddur served as a speaker for the “Innovate Kidney” webinar series hosted by the American Society of Nephrology’s where she discussed design optimization for the advancement of artificial kidney technology. Ms. Maddur aims to drive long-term impact and improved patient outcomes through such collaborative client engagements.

Prior to joining RTI in 2022, Ms. Maddur completed a fellowship program in pediatric surgical innovation from the University of Michigan where she worked closely with physicians to identify unmet clinical needs and opportunities for technological advancements in the field of pediatric surgery. From 2015 to 2020 she served as a Product Development Engineer at Terumo Cardiovascular and Gilero Biomedical. While there, she managed programs related to cardiopulmonary bypass systems, menstrual hygiene products, as well as drug-device combination products. She is a founding member at startup organizations Idealyst and Warmilu, where she spearheaded the development of low-cost high-impact solutions to address hypothermia in premature and low-birth-weight infants, used to treat over 10,000 children annually in 23 countries worldwide.
