RTI SolutionX Session | Innovative Solutions and Tools for Modernizing Public Health Data and Technology Infrastructure
June 15, 3:15 - 3:45 PM ET
Presenters: Rashonda Lewis, JD; Rebecca Boyles, MSPH; Melissa McPheeters, PhD
There has been a collective call to action to modernize public health’s data infrastructure. Current efforts are focused on long-standing challenges to data access and interoperability that slow the flow of critical data needed for public health threat surveillance and response, research, and patient care. Session attendees will learn how RTI solutions and tools are applied to help accelerate user engagement, improve data access across the data lifecycle, and advance interoperability for federal and state level public health partners, with key takeaways including:
- Lessons learned from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on data commons related to user engagement, data governance and use-case driven approaches can inform current efforts to modernize public health’s data infrastructure.
- Proven solutions for data standardization (e.g., US Core & USCDI and SMART on FHIR), healthcare interventions (e.g., telehealth, wearables, and app development) and reporting (e.g., measure development, CQL-based logic) to support information-based decision making.
- An introduction to data science solutions and innovations, such as an age prediction algorithm that predicts ages of JUUL’s social media followers and an open-source and freely available coding tool for classifying offense charge codes.
