Today’s development challenges are complex, and effective and sustainable impact is only possible through locally developed and led solutions. To facilitate the exchange of insights and promising practices in locally led development, RTI's Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning, and Adapting (MERLA) team is pleased to host a learning summit that will convene representatives from across East Africa working in government, the private sector, and civil society. These practitioners will discuss ideas to collaborate with local leaders and promote meaningful leadership from the individuals and organizations who have the most in-depth understanding of how to improve lives and livelihoods in their communities.
Specifically, the learning summit will center on four key topics:
- Local data ownership: Key challenges and emergent solutions to ensuring data is in the hands of local decision-makers.
- Pathways for resilient organizations: What does sustainability look like for different organizations and how can donors and international implementing partners support those varied organizational goals?
- Fostering local private sector solutions: Exploring the unique role that local private sector firms play in enabling sustainable development solutions.
- Peer to peer learning: What models work, what could be done better, and how?
On the second day of the summit, RTI will host a session targeted at RTI partners and staff to reflect on the previous day’s discussions and consider specific challenges faced in our work across the region.
