Join RTI International and other national experts at the annual Public Health Improvement Training (PHIT) in New Orleans on May 20-21, 2024, and/or virtually on June 3-5, 2024. PHIT 2024 will offer a range of virtual and in-person training workshops, networking opportunities, and town hall sessions.
The PHIT theme recognizes the collective vision we have for a healthier future and emphasizes centering equity through actionable performance improvement approaches to achieve this shared vision. PHIT focuses on sharing new and innovative approaches as well as tried and true best practices to continuously improve and ultimately, to build healthier workplaces and communities. PHIT 2024 will provide skill-building in all areas of performance improvement through interactive learning and public health system networking.

Establishing Authentic Community Partnerships for Health Equity

This workshop from the Transformative Research Unit for Equity (TRUE) at RTI International will introduce attendees to promising practices for partnering with community members who have been historically excluded from decision making tables. This interactive 2-hour training will focus on elements of successful partnerships by presenting topics related to
- Importance of self-reflections prior to engaging with communities
- How to establish and maintain relationships with a lens toward sustainability
- Strategies for meaningful engagement
It is designed for all health departments or executive/senior management from diverse backgrounds and education levels to strengthen core competencies in community partnership and health equity skills for the public health workforce. Attendees who are seeking introductory, foundational knowledge regarding how to build and sustain community partnerships are encouraged to attend.
By gaining knowledge about promising practices for partnerships, attendees will learn how to improve community engagement in their own projects and settings. By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand how bias, privilege, and power influences community engagement by engaging in a brief self-reflection
- Describe how to apply practice-based guiding principles for engaging community groups in programs or initiatives.
- Identify actionable ways to collaborate with community partners
